California, the breadbasket of the USA, is enduring one of the worst droughts in its history, while Sydney, Australia was pummeled by three days of drenching rains, flooding and hurricane-force winds that claimed lives and left millions of dollars of damage in the wake of the worst storm in almost a decade.
